Paula Caplan

Paula Caplan
Character from the James Bond franchise
Affiliation MI-6
Portrayed by Martine Beswick

Paula Caplan is a fictional character in the James Bond film, Thunderball. She is played by Martine Beswick.

Paula is first seen when Bond visits Nassau to meet Dominique Derval. Paula is a local Bahamian islander who, along with Pinder, is Bond's native contact on the island. She is apparently of Jewish faith; her surname is Caplan. It's also strongly implied that he's seducing her on the side, although she is still the only woman that Bond has been more than casually acquainted with who has never been shown in any romantic liasions with him.

Caplan aids Bond on his mission to recover two missing nuclear weapons by helping him make contact with Domino Derval, mistress of the enigmatic Emilio Largo. Caplan is later kidnapped by Fiona Volpe when relaxing reading magazines in her hotel room. Before Largo's men can interrogate her, Caplan commits suicide with a cyanide pill.

Pinder

Pinder
Character from the James Bond franchise
Affiliation MI-6
Portrayed by Earl Cameron

Pinder is a fictional character in the James Bond film, Thunderball, played by Earl Cameron. He is a local Bahamian, who serves as the British Intelligence station chief in Nassau and provides Bond with a base of operations there.

Pinder is first seen meeting with Bond, Felix Leiter and Paula on a busy Nassau sidewalk, whereupon he escorts them all back to his station. He is, thereafter, present for all scenes at the British Intelligence station (where his radio operator remains in constant contact with London) to assist Bond's mission in various ways. In the field, he and Leiter drop Bond off by raft for his underwater reconnaissance of the enemy yacht. He also drives up to Bond's hotel to deliver some important information.
